Hello friends, welcome to all of you in another new post, today we will know What is a self starter is in a vehicle. And how does it work? And what is its utility in the field of automobiles? So let us know in detail about it. and how it works
 What is Self-starter
Do you know that an engine needs to start? The crankshaft in the engine rotates when crankshaft in the engine rotates. So the engine starts.
Due to this, the piston completes its stroke in the engine. Now it is necessary to rotate the crankshaft in the engine, for this self-starter is used in the vehicle.
In earlier times, to rotate the crankshaft in vehicles, a dog nut was placed on the end of the driving pulley and the crank was rotated by trapping a handle in this dog nut.
But in today’s changing times, a D.C. motor is used to rotate the crankshaft. Which is known as a self-starter. It takes power from the battery.
And gives mechanical power to the engine. It is fitted at the rear of the engine. That some part of it remains moving in the flywheel and to start it, the pinion of this motor can rotate the crankshaft by meeting the ring gear mounted above the flywheel, using this self-starter does not have to apply power. and easier to start the engine.

StructureÂ
Let’s know now. About the construction of self-starter. The construction of a self-starter is almost the same as that of the dynamo. In this also armature pole shoe computer bush is used.
In these, the field coil and armature winding are made of thick insulated copper wire or thin copper leaves. A series wound is used in this.
You all know very well that power is required to rotate the crankshaft. For this winding is used in self-starter. This winding is like this.
In which the resistance remains very less. And more current is obtained. Due to this, the power of the self-starter is able to rotate the crankshaft. This current ranges from 450 to 550 amperes.
Due to this, it heats up quickly. That’s why it should not be rotated for more than about 25 seconds. Because there is a danger of burning the winding. Four bushings are used in the self-starter.
And these bushes are made by mixing copper and graphite. All other parts are the same as the dynamo. Only the armature shaft is kept slightly longer. Because pinion is used in it. Which rotates the flywheel by moving.
What is the principle of self-starter?
As you would know that whenever a conductor is placed in a current-flowing magnet. So a mechanical force is generated in that conductor.
Self-starter works on this principle. When a mechanical force is generated in the conductor. So this mechanical force makes it rotate. This magnetic force is known as Fleming’s right-hand force.
How does the self-starter work?
Let us now know how the works. You all know very well that two terminals are used in the battery of a motor vehicle. There is a positive terminal.
And there is a negative terminal. In which the positive terminal is connected to the self-starter by a cable. On the other hand, the negative terminal is earthed on the chassis of the vehicle.
A switch is used in the positive terminal. when the engine starts. Then the switch is turned on. Due to this, the current starts flowing in the field coil.
These field coils are connected to the main terminal. The current usually completes its circuit by getting negative through the starter body. Often due to the current of the field coil, man becomes face to face like magnetic poles.
Due to this these poles try to push each other. And against this, unlike magnetic poles attract each other. Due to this, when the armature gets current between the field coils.
Then a rotating force is produced between the field coils in the armature. Due to this, the armature starts rotating. The speed of rotation in the armature depends on the number of turns of the copper wire and the current in it.
The armature shaft is used in the self-starter. At its end, a drive mechanism is used to rotate the flywheel. When the armature rotates. This mechanism moves forward and starts rotating the flywheel.
What is the drive mechanism?
The drive mechanism is used in self-starter. All these self-starters are almost the same. Many types of drive mechanisms are used.
Gear is used in flywheel and armature. Whose ratio is 16:1? which means when the pinion completes 16 revolutions. So one revolution of the flywheel takes place.
Due to this, the flywheel gets more torque. and when the engine runs. So it becomes necessary to break their relationship. Otherwise, if the armature starts rotating along with the speed of the engine, there is a risk of breakage of the computer segment and connection.
What are the types of a drive mechanism
let’s know How many types of drive mechanisms are there, we are describing some types here. Which are the following –
axial self-starter
lever drive mechanism
Bendix drive
what is a solenoid switch
A solenoid switch is used in self-starter. A self-starter rotates with a maximum current in electrical equipment. Because of this, thick copper wires are used to connect it to the battery.
Due to this the normal switch does not work in it. Therefore a different type of switch is used in it. which we know as a solenoid switch
