What Is Master Cylinder?

Hello friends, welcome to all of you in another new post, today we will know what is a hydraulic brake system. And how does it work? So, without delay, let us know what is a hydraulic brake system. is and how it works

hydraulic brake system

In a hydraulic brake system, hydraulic pressure power is used to stop and slow the moving wheels. And for this brake fluid is used in it.

It works according to Pascal’s law. According to which liquids do not suppress by pressing. And their pressure remains the same all around. A cylinder is used in this.

and the piston is fitted. Brake oil is filled in the cylinder. When the pressure falls on the cylinder. So its pressure remains the same in the future. The same principle is used in hydraulic brake systems.

But if air enters the system in any way and when the brake pedal is pressed, the air in the pipe gets compressed, due to which the hydraulic pressure is not created by the brake fluid. So the brake system does not work properly, does not work at all, then it becomes necessary to release the air that has come in this condition.

Hydraulic brakes working

The master cylinder is used in the hydraulic brake system. In which the brake fluid is filled or the connection of that master cylinder is connected to the brake pedal through the push rod.

Whenever the brake pedal is depressed, in the ‘us’ state the master cylinder brake oil is forced through the pipelines into the center of the wheel cylinders. And which comes into the wheel cylinder due to brake oil pressure.

That wheel expands the pistons in the cylinder outwards. Because of this the brake shoes near the pistons also spread and prevent the brake drum from rotating.

The brake drums are mounted on the axles and when the brake drums stop, the axle stops and the motor vehicle stops. Conversely, when pressure is released from the brake pedal, the brake shoe return spring, the brake shoe, and the pistons of the wheel cylinders first Return as is.

And the brake oil that came from the wheel cylinder goes back to the master cylinder and the vehicle starts running again.

Let us know what are the main parts of the hydraulic brake system.

master cylinder

The master cylinder plays a major role in the hydraulic brake system, it is a small tank. In which hydraulic oil is filled. Which goes through the pipes to the wheel cylinders. The master cylinder is connected to the brake pedal through a push rod.

These are usually of three types

simple master cylinder

center valve master cylinder

tandem master cylinder

Let’s know them in a little more detail

simple master cylinder

The simple master cylinder in which a reservoir tank is made for brake oil in the upper part. And there are usually two routes for the brake oil to go from the reservoir tank to the master cylinder.

One is the bypass and compensator and an end plug is placed ahead of the master cylinder. And it is fitted with benzo bolt and union. And from here brake oil goes to all-wheel cylinders due to pressure.

center valve master cylinder

In the center valve master cylinder, a check valve is installed on the front of the piston in the master cylinder. Also, in some master cylinders, the reservoir of brake oil is made along with it.

Whenever the brake pedal is depressed, the piston moves forward to close the line to the valve supply. And due to the oil pressure passing through the front part of the piston, it reaches the wheel cylinders.

And vice versa when the pressure is released from the pedal. So the oil comes back due to the removal of the check valve.

tandem master cylinder

In tandem master cylinders, two pistons are often used instead of one piston. And two outlet ports are made. Oil is supplied to the front brakes through a port.

And the rear brakes are delivered from the other port. And at the same time, two primary and two-piston springs are used in it, and also different check valves are used in the outlet port.

brake shoe lining

In fact, the process of braking is done by the brake shoe. Brake shoe linings are generally made of asbestos material. And the brake shoe is attached through rivets.

These linings wear down over time whenever the brakes are used. Due to this, there is a danger of rubbing a brake drum. That’s why the brake shoe is replaced when the brake lining wears out, but in some small vehicles, new brake lining is used to replace the old brake lining to some extent.

wheel cylinder

The wheel cylinder is usually a small cylinder. Which fits between both brake shoes. And it is open from both sides.

Its main parts are the cylinder, piston, spring, rubber cup, and bleeding valve. In this, both the pistons of the wheel cylinder are fitted and each rubber cup is fitted with them. There is a spring in between the rubber cups.

The wheel cylinder is usually connected to an anchor plate, in which two ports are made, from which the pipe of the master cylinder is connected to the wheel cylinder, Hy, and the air bleeding pipe is also connected to the wheel cylinder. Also, dust boots are fitted at both ends of the wheel cylinders so that dust cannot enter.
