Hello friends, welcome to all of you in another new post, in this post we will know what is Disk Brake in vehicles. And how does it work? And how many types are there? So let’s know what is this break
What is a disc brake?
In today’s changing times, the use of disc brakes in automobiles is increasing rapidly. And the use of very efficient brakes is gradually increasing which mainly consists of
It is used in two-wheelers and four-wheelers till now in small vehicles.
This type of brake stops the motor vehicle quickly in any situation and in a very short time. Whenever the brake is applied, the brake oil located in the reservoir of the master cylinder is forced through the brake line to the brake pad on the wheel.
And due to the pressure of brake oil, the brake pads come into active condition.
Now the question is that in this system, how does the vehicle stop with just a slight pressure on the brakes? The credit for this goes to Pascal’s principle.

On what principle do Disk Brake work?
This system works on the principle of Pascal. That is, when the brake is pressed, at that time the piston in the master cylinder moves with the help of a spring. Due to this pressure is generated in the brake oil. And through the brake oil brake line, pressure is created on the piston adjacent to the disc in the wheel and this piston creates pressure on the disc pad.
According to Pascal’s principle if the pressure on both pistons is equal. So due to the area of the pistons, the force exerted on the piston in the master cylinder is multiplied by that on the disc pad.
And the brake pad moves forward and presses the brake disc. And as a result, the wheel stops. In this arrangement, the pistons are mounted on the brake disc on only one side. Then how do the disc pads on the other side work?
So for this floating caliper mechanism is used in it. Which remains in a floating or moving state. And the force acts in the opposite direction. When braking, there is a reaction on both sides simultaneously. And there is a frictional force between the two.
Due to this, both brake pads grip the disc together. But because of this frictional force
In motorbikes, this can be controlled by the flow of air around the disc. But in order to control the temperature in cars, a surface with more airflow and area is very important.
For this reason, vanes are fitted in the discs of cars. The vanes help to expel the air by spreading it like rays. Perforations around the disc allow air to circulate more all around
how Disk Brake work
For this brake system, the brake lever is used in the bike and the brake pedal is used in four wheelers. The paddles or levers are mutually connected to an oil field tank. This oil tank is connected to the brake pad through a pressure tube. And the brake pad is attached to a disc. Whenever the pedal or lever is pressed. So the pressure is generated. And when the valve is connected to the oil tank, when there is pressure on this valve. So pushes the oil into a tank. And this pressure oil pushes the brake pads. And the brake pads grip the disc which stops the wheel.
what are the types of Disk Brake
These brakes are of two types –
Fixed caliper disc brake –
In this type of brake system. Four pistons are used. One of their specialties is that the pressure of all four pistons falls on the wheel. Two pistons exert pressure on the disc from one side and two pistons from one side. Its advantage is this. that there is more pressure on the pads on both sides
Floating caliper disc brake –
One or two cylinders are used in this system. Both wheels are connected to each other through a pipe. The brake pedals are pressed by the pressure of these pistons. Which are attached on both sides of the disc. When the brake pedal is pressed, the hydraulic pressure causes the pads to stop the rotating disc due to friction. From this position, the wheel slows down and stops.
Advantages of floating-type brake
In floating-type disc brakes, the disc heats up relatively less during braking.
The construction of this type of brake system is also simple.
There is very little need to adjust the brakes in this type of system.
It is easier to change brake pads in this type of system.
Some disadvantages of floating-type brake
In this type of brake system. Requires more pressure on the brake pads to apply the brakes
this type of brake system, the brake pads wear out quickly.
Some other facts about disc brakes
These brakes are made of gray cast iron.
brake pads of the brakes can be made thicker. which can last for a long time.
The brakes are simply designed.
A load of this brake is less.
The pads of this brake are easily replaceable.
