Hello friends, welcome to all of you in another new post, do you know how a diesel engine is different from a petrol engine? Today we will know what are the differences between petrol and diesel engines and how are these two differ from each other, so let’s know what are the differences between them.
Diesel and petrol engines
You all must know what a diesel engine is. And what is a petrol engine? And how do they work? If not, then let us tell you that the working method of diesel and petrol engines is almost the same.
Both of them work on the same principle. And the cycle is also complete in only one of them. But despite this, there are many changes in them. For example, during the suction stroke in a diesel engine, only pure air enters the cylinder of the engine.
It is compressed and diesel is sprayed on it. From which power is obtained. On the other hand, in a petrol engine, a mixture of air and petrol enters the cylinder during the suction stroke.
And after compressing it, it is ignited by giving a spark through the spark plug. and power is obtained. There are some other reasons as well which are different in diesel engines.
And they are different in petrol engines, we will know about many such differences further, so let us know about some differences between diesel and petrol engines.

Difference between Petrol and Diesel engine
As you all know that many engines are used in automobiles. But mostly petrol and diesel engines are used in vehicles. Both do almost the same thing. But some of these processes are different, the details of which are as follows
Petrol is used as a fuel in a petrol engine, which is mixed with air and sent to the engine in proportion.
Whereas diesel is used as fuel in a diesel engine. It is sprayed on the hot air in the combustion chamber.
More horsepower is obtained in diesel engines. For this reason, diesel engines are also used for heavy work.
Whereas in a petrol engine, work power is obtained as compared to diesel engine. That’s why they are mostly not used for heavy work.
In a diesel engine, clean air enters the cylinder during the suction stroke in the combustion chamber.
In a petrol engine, a mixture of air and petrol enters the cylinder during the suction stroke.
A fuel injection pump is used to ignite the compressed hot air in the combustion chamber of a diesel engine. that sprays diesel in the form of smoke on compressed hot air
A carburettor is used in place of a fuel injection pump in petrol engines. Which sends the mixture of air and petrol to the combustion chamber of the engine.
The compression ratio in diesel engines ranges from about 1:12 to 1:22. which means 1 quantity of diesel and 12 to 22 quantities of air remains.
The compression ratio in a petrol engine ranges from about 1:4 to 1:10. which means 1 quantity of petrol and 4 to 10 quantities of air remains
The cost of a diesel engine is very high. But it costs less to maintain. They prove to be cost-effective due to longer shelf life
A petrol engine costs a bit less. But its maintenance costs a lot. For this reason, these engines prove to be expensive from the point of view of long-term use.
Diesel is cheaper. And it costs less for a 1 H.P power
Whereas the cost of petrol is high. And for 1 H.P. power, the cost is also high.
In a diesel engine, the battery is used only for light, horn, and self-starter.
Whereas in petrol engine the battery is used to burn the fuel. ignition coil. The spark plug is used for the distributor.
Diesel engines often start late when cold
or petrol engine starts quickly when cold
A diesel engine has more torque. Because of this, the parts in the transmission have to be made stronger. It is used in loaded vehicles.
The petrol engine has less torque. There is no need to make the parts more strong in these.
A diesel engine has more starting torque. Due to this need of a bigger battery is used for self-start.
Whereas the starting torque of petrol engine is less. That’s why only low power battery works for self-start
A spark plug is used to ignite the fuel in a petrol engine, which works in an electric method. Petrol is an inflammable substance. It becomes more flammable by being compressed in the combustion chamber. And at the same time, the spark of fire is given by the spark plug on it.
But in the diesel engine high-pressure line is used instead. Which sprays diesel on compressed air in the form of smoke. Diesel burns on its own when it comes in contact with hot air. And it is from this that power is obtained.
