What does the camshaft position sensor do?

As you all know that the function of a camshaft is to open and close the inlet and exhaust valves in the engine cylinder. CAM sensor measures the position and angle of a camshaft and sends the signal to the engine control model ie ECM which is detected by ECU voltage. As the name suggests, three wires are used in this, in which one wire is signal wire, ground wire, and a positive wire called reference voltage wire. But there is 2.5v in some and 5v in some, similarly, power means on the reference wire, in some, it is 12v, in some it is 5v and there is also 2.5v in some, and the regularity of the ground wire is checked through a multimeter.
